This song is a favorite throughout Mexico and is considered to be the National Song of that country. Although the melody and rhythm sound more exciting at the faster 6/8 tempo, I have chosen to play this song at the more dance-like 3/4 time, a tempo which also suits the second refrain section with a waltz signature which I find immensely enjoyable. Ashley Publications presents the entire piece in their sheet music, with the often missing middle refrain nicely included. The bassoon voice of the Hohner has a very deep sounding texture and the musette registers offer a delightfully rich tuning of the middle reeds.
